Dr Kumaravel, born and educated in the green city of Bangalore, had his schooling at the St Joseph’s Indian High School and St Joseph’s College Bangalore, established a keen academic interest as evidenced by securing merit scholarships. He went on to complete his undergraduate (MBBS) and post graduate (M.S. General Surgery) medical education at the prestigious St John’s Medical College and National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bangalore. He continued to show his academic interests and won several awards and scholarships notable of them being securing the Tenth Position at the University level, Certificate of Honour for achieving Second place in Vascular Quiz Contest, and several scholarships like Recipient of the National Merit Scholarship from Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the Dr. Radha Bai Scholarship from St John’s Medical College, Bangalore, the Tagore Scholarship from Associazione Centro Studi Tagore, Italy for Postgraduate Education. He went on to complete his Postdoctoral course(M.Ch. Pediatric Surgery) in Pediatric Surgery at one of the oldest and reputed Children’s hospital in the country, The Institute of Child Health & Hospital for Children, Chennai. He continued to show his keen clinical and academic interests by having several presentations at state and national forums and won the Best Poster Award at the Annual Conference of Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeons held at Trivandrum, September 2001 for the poster entitled Complex Duodenal Obstruction In A Neonate With Downs Syndrome And Spontaneous Biliary Reflux. He takes keen interest in keeping himself up-to-date and is a Life member of several professional bodies notably
