National Forensic Medicine Day 2024

The National Forensic Medicine Day 2024 was commemorated on May 13, 2024, at the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, JIPMER, with the theme "Exhume the truth." This event marks the establishment of the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine on May 12, 1972, which is celebrated as National Day of Forensic Medicine across the country. However, due to a public holiday on May 12, 2024, the department postponed the celebration to May 13, 2024.

The program was organized by the faculty members and residents of the department. Common agenda and goals were set for improvements in the Clinical Forensic Medicine services, establishment of a Virtual autopsy system for public usage, Morgue room safety and development of Forensic Toxicology units. Mr Sakthivel, Superintendent, Dept of Horticulture, JIPMER, was invited as a guest to demonstrate the common toxic plants and agricultural poisons to the postgraduate students.

For the first time, autopsy Scrub suits were distributed among the faculty and residents as a token or first step to improve the morgue room safety.

The major focus of this event were Quiz/puzzle games for the Postgraduate students and a Theme-based competition for undergraduate (M.B.B.S) students and interns at JIPMER, Puducherry. A large number of participants took part in the competition, which featured categories such as Slogans, Photography, and Memes. The Head of the Department, Dr. Ambika Prasad Patra, presented awards to the winners for each category, as evidenced by the accompanying photographs.
