The Department of Surgery was established on 2017 under the guidance of Professor        Dr. Jagdish S and has been functioning since then to provide undergraduate medical education and clinical care services in Karaikal. The department is expected to function full-fledged with outpatient services, 120 bedded ward including intensive care facilities with support from the Department of Surgery, JIPMER Pondicherry. We aim to provide elective and emergency services including minimally invasive surgery. This will enable us to provide complete surgical care to the population in and around the vicinity of Karaikal district.

Academic activities

The department undertakes theory and clinical training in general surgery for MBBS undergraduate students of JIPMER Karaikal. We aim to conduct surgical workshops for undergraduate students to provide them hands on training on basic surgical skills. Expanding the departments capabilities to provide post graduate surgical training is the future goal.
