The Department of Pharmacology in JIPMER Karaikal was started in the year 2017 with 50 students per batch. The department is currently contributing in teaching and research activities in the institute. The faculty, senior residents and tutors are involved in taking theory, practical, computer assisted learning activities to second year MBBS students and foundation courses for first year MBBS students.

Vision and Mission

  • To train the UG students in the field of pharmacology, and drug prescribing practices.
  • To provide patient care services related to pharmacology like therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmacogenomics, personalized medicine.
  • To contribute significantly to research activities in preclinical studies, clinical trials, adverse drug reaction monitoring studies, cell culture studies

Academic

  • The department trains second year MBBS students in both theoretical and practical aspects of pharmacology.

Proposed/planned services

  • To set up an adverse drug reaction- ADR monitoring unit, drug information center.

Notice Board

Department of Pharmacology, JIPMER, Karaikal has officially been recognised as the ADR monitoring centre (AMC) by Indian Pharmacopoeia commission, Ghaziabhad in August 2022. The third National Pharmacovigilance week is celebrated from 17th to 23rd of September 2023 with the theme “ Boosting public confidence in ADR reporting” by Indian Pharmacopoeia commission. In regard to that we have conducted the following programs,

  1. Pharmacovigilance sensitization programme among nurses of Mother Teresa institute at Kalam campus, JIPMER, Karaikal on 21.9.2023.
  2. Pharmacovigilance role play was performed by MBBS students based on the case scenarios on 22.9.2023
  3. Pharmacovigilance meme contest for the second year MBBS students, JIPMER, Karaikal on 23.9.2023, 2.00 to 4.30 pm at Kalam campus, JIPMER, Karaikal.
  4. Pharmacovigilance awareness and ADR reporting sensitization programme for the jipmer house keeping staff, security staff  on 23.9.2023.
  5. >Public notices in tamil were prepared and distributed to the nurses and jipmer staff. The future plan is to distribute the public notice to the patients attending government hospital and primary health centre
