Hand transplantation Programme

The department of plastic surgery applied for reconstructive transplantation license in 2015-16. JIPMER was issued the license to perform hand and other reconstructive transplantations in August 2016. On August 2^nd, 2017, the first bilateral upper forearm transplantation was done. He has regained full protective sensations in both The hands and is able to hold a ball with his left hand. JIPMER is venturing into other soft tissue transplantation as well.
