Services

Out patient (OPD) services are offered on 6 days of the week attending to an average of 500 patients per day. Critically ill patients and those requiring emergency surgeries (trauma and non trauma cases) are evaluated by a dedicated team in the surgical division (4th floor) of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) building which functions on 24 hour basis on all days of the week with an average admission of around 20 patients per day.

Endoscopy services (Esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy and colonoscopy) are provided on 6 days of the week. Around 4000 diagnostic and 217 therapeutic endoscopies are performed annually which are later followed up with a detailed management plan. 3 dedicated nursing staff members along with ancillary workers ensure efficient functioning of services and maintenance of the high resolution endoscopic equipment.

The department has a state of the art OT suite facility that sees an average of 1200 major procedures and 1000 minor procedures being performed annually with a large number of major cases being operated via minimal access techniques such as laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. Robotic assisted laparoscopic procedures are performed regularly. Emergency surgical procedures are operated in a separate OT complex inside EMS building (2nd floor) where around 2500 major and 3500 minor procedures are performed annually. It also has a dedicated recovery room with ventilator facility for immediate postoperative monitoring of patients.

An eight bedded fully equipped intensive care unit with ventilator facility is manned by junior resident surgeons along with nursing staff, under the supervision of senior residents and faculty 24/7 to manage and monitor post operative or other admitted sick patients.

Tumor clinic discussion is held twice weekly by the department on Mondays (General oncology clinic) and Thursdays (Breast tumor clinic) between 2-4 pm in association with departments of Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Radiology and Pathology to decide upon the best line of management in the shortest duration of time for cancer patients visiting the department.
