NICU
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at JIPMER is among the largest and busiest units in the country, and is located on the first floor of JWCH. It houses a 14-bedded level 3 unit, 15-bedded level 2 unit and 31-bedded level 1 unit. In addition, there is a 12-bedded Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) ward. The unit is managed by team of highly skilled nurses, neonatologists, DM fellows, MD residents and other support staff who provide round-the-clock services.

Neonatal follow up services
A multidisciplinary follow-up service for high-risk neonates is operational Mon-Friday on the first floor, JWCH (OPD no 200). Newborns discharged from the NICU at risk for neurodevelopmental disorders are offered the following services:
- Growth assessment
- Development assessment
- ROP screening
- Thyroid function screening
- Cranial Ultrasonography
- Hearing and speech assessment
- Early intervention center provides physiotherapy and special education
- Speech therapy
- Neonatal Hearing screening: universal newborn hearing screening is practiced
