In-Patient Care
Department has about 25 beds in general and private wards combined, including 4 ICU beds to provide in-patient care for newly diagnosed leukemia on induction therapy, for administration of intensive protocols with multiday chemotherapy or with 24 hours infusion, management of chemo-toxicity and high risk febrile neutropenia, and for supportive care.
Day Care Services
A well-equipped Day Care functioning from 8 am to 9 pm (Monday to Saturday) caters to majority of cases of solid tumors administering about 80-100 courses of chemotherapy daily. It also provides supportive care treatment (blood transfusion, intravenous antibiotics for febrile neutropenia) for all patients while on anti-cancer therapy.
Minor OT Procedures
Following Minor OT procedures are performed on all five days a week on Monday to Friday, for both out patients and in patients.
- Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
- Central venous catheter insertion
- Pleurocentesis and paracentesis
- Lumbar puncture &Intrathecal chemotherapy injection
Bone Marrow Transplant Services
BMT facility is active from 2013 and currently functions within a 3 bedded fully equipped unit within the department. The program has a full time coordinator as well as dedicated nursing staff who are all well trained in various aspects of the care of these patients. Over 150 procedures have been completed till date. Through the help of our coordinators and social workers, we help the patient to find funding for these expensive procedures and hence these services have reached the poorest of the society.
Supportive Care Activities
Our team of social workers, patient support nurses, coordinators, dieticians and doctors ensure that sufficient efforts are made towards addressing the quality of life issues of all patients. We undertake efforts to improve their nutrition, their financial issues are addressed and logistics are provided for. In the last year, the department has successfully engaged with various NGOs and other social service organizations for these activities. Notably a “home away from home” which allows long term stay for pediatric patients undergoing leukemia therapy has also started functioning.
