The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research is popularly known as JIPMER. The Institution was upgraded as an Institute of National Importance under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. JIPMER Hospital is 1833 bedded multispecialty hospital.
In JIPMER, the College of Nursing was started in August 2006. It is functioning with exclusive three level building and fully equipped with advance modern equipment to learn the full spectrum of nursing care. The students are provided with class room learning, simulation learning, clinical learning and field learning with all modern teaching aids. An exclusive Library facility is accessible for nursing students i.e. the students have access to library facilities from central library & college of nursing with rich collection of books, e-books, journals and e-journals. Further, College of Nursing is equipped with computer lab, internet and Wifi connections. The classes are taught by experienced faculty both college of nursing & JIPMER faculty members. Residential facilities in the hostel are excellent for ideal development of students.
The College of Nursing, JIPMER aim is to prepare nursing graduate to assume responsibilities as professionally competent nurses and midwives in providing holistic care. Students are given hands on training in different areas like basic medical sciences such as Anatomy, Physiology, Nutrition, Bio-chemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Genetics, Medical Surgical Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Maternity Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Nursing Education, Professionalism, Professional Values and Ethics, including Bioethics, Health/Nursing Informatics & Technology, Introduction to Forensic Nursing and Indian laws, Nursing administration, Nursing research and statistics. The B.Sc. Nursing, M.Sc. Nursing and Post Basic Diploma in Nursing courses are adapted from the Indian Nursing Council with the approval of various committees in JIPMER and also conducting full time & part time Ph.D. courses.
