The Central Animal House, JIPMER facilitates the use of animals for teaching, training and research. The animal house currently underwent modernization following the guidelines by the CCSEA, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt of India, New Delhi. The new, state-of-the art animal house building has five floors with a total plinth area are 5604 square meters. It is designed for both small animals (Rat, Mouse, Guinea pig, Rabbit and Hamster) as well as large animals (Swine and Sheep) research and training facilities, which will provide scientific services and animal resources to students and researchers. The entire facility is centrally air conditioned with HVAC system, with clean and dirty corridor concept with pressure gradients. It is also planned to establish imaging facilities, cath lab and operation theatres. This central facility is managed by the department of Pharmacology.
