Ophthalmology Department was started in JIPMER karaikal on 24.04.2020, with the joining of Dr Niruban G as Assistant professor. There would be dedicated OPD services and inpatient services-initially in collaboration with GH, Karaikal and later in our own institute. OPD services would include vision assessment, refraction, anterior segment and posterior segment imaging, A scan, B scan, NdYAG laser, green laser, dedicated contact lens clinic and opticals. Services of cataract, cornea, glaucoma, medical retina, neuroophthalmology, uvea and pediatric ophthalmology would be offered, thus benefitting people of karaikal, nagapattinam, cuddalore and tanjore districts. Expertise in surgical retina and few other aspects would be sort from Department of Ophthalmology, JIPMER, Puducherry.

Journal club, CME s, Workshops, Postgraduate courses and Fellowships will be planned in a graded manner.
