The department of Pathology started way back at the inception of JIPMER. It was headed by stalwarts like Dr. DJ Reddy, Dr. AL Arora, Dr. AJ Veliath, Dr. Kamala Chandra and Dr. Malati Madhavan. Over the years it has developed into a multidisciplinary department with a well-developed undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The department has played a major role in the patient care by providing the essential in-patient and out-patient laboratory services including 24 hour emergency services.
1. Dr. Debdatta Basu, Professor of Pathology along with Dr. K. Arun Kumar, Senior Resident and Dr. Prasad Dange, Senior Resident, were invited faculty at the Pre-conference Hematology CME and Workshop on Bone marrow biopsy interpretation held at MKCG Medical College, Brahmapur, Odisha. They conducted a workshop on Bone marrow trephine biopsy and spoke on the following topics

2. Debdatta Basu was an invited speaker at Sri Manakula Vinayagar South Indian Physician Conference (SMVSIPCON 2015) , held at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College, Puducherry held on 31st October and 1st November 2015. He spoke on Approach to pancytopenia
3. Dr. Ranjith AR, final year post graduate, Pathology along with Dr. Karthikeyan (PG Medicine) and Dr. Dhayaguruvasn (PG Pediatrics) came third in the South Zone Hematology quiz organised under the auspices of Indian Society of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, held in Bangalore
