c. Adverse drug reaction monitoring centre

Pharmacovigilance is the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problem. It is essential to continue monitoring of drugs and their adverse reactions after drug approvals. Hence WHO collaborating center for international drug monitoring namely Uppsala Monitoring centre has been established since 1978.  It develops the database of ADRs throughout the world. With the same objective, Government of India re-started “Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI)” for assuring drug safety in June 2010. Previously the drug safety programme was called National Pharmacovigilance Programme (NPP). JIPMER has separately unit for monitoring and analyzing ADRs since November 2004. The center has actively contributed to the national database of ADRs. Presently, under the PvPI, JIPMER has Adverse Drug Reaction monitoring centre with a technical associate and was inaugurated in November 2010. Monthly on an average 129 ADRs are being collected from JIPMER.

All the healthcare professionals are requested to report the adverse drug reactions by filling the forms and droping in the red boxes placed throughout hospital. Reporting can also be made by filling ADR forms (below link provided) and sending back to our email id adrjipmer@gmail.com
